Lifelong Learning Spaces

Young or old - learning never stops. Our partners in Youth Dream Center Sierra Leone continue to offer education programmes across Sierra Leone - in non-formal schools and learning centers in Freetown, Makeni, and Kono. Hundreds of kids and adults join every day. This is supported by Erik Thunes Legat, who have been on board the project for three years. Here's a glimpse of the wonderful people who take part, when we visited Sierra Leone in October 2024.

Engaging parents and caregivers: In the past year, we have opened the learning centers for parents and care givers to the children. Many of them have never been to school - but are now reading and writing for the first time. They can now help their kids after school, and even study together. YDC is also empowering parents and caregivers with knowledge on child rights and safety. Creating safe households and communities for children's holistic development.

Non-formal education in Sierra Leone plays an important role to make sure all people have access to education and skills. And the classrooms at Youth Dream Center are always packed with people eager to learn - young and old! Reaching out-of-school children and youth, reducing dropout rates, and enhancing learning environments. Youth Dream Centers works with both basic learning and technical skills training - that can support children to continue their education and young people to access jobs.

Next Steps: Coming up, we hope to expand the programme, reach even more people, and get creative together with them to create more awareness on education and communities around learning. Strengthening partnerships, engaging with local authorities, and transforming the access to learning the children, youth, and adults that make up the urban communities in Sierra Leone.

Stay tuned for more updates and inspiring stories from our projects!
